Using the crochet toolbar

We have developed a set of tools that appear on pattern pages of The Crochet Community. The Tools Bar features:

  • Row/Stitch Counter (website and app)
  • Row Highlight Bar (website only)
  • UK/US Term Pattern Conversion (website and app)
  • Show/Hide Tools Bar (website only)
  • Accessibility Widget (website and app) – learn more

On the website, the crochet toolbar floats at the bottom of the screen meaning it is always in view on pattern pages (unless you’ve toggled the hide/show button). On the app the toolbar is near the bottom of the page on patterns. We are working on full integration for the app.

About the Row/Stitch Counter
The counter features a plus and minus button to add or subtract from your count. The count is saved even if you close your web browser and turn off your computer. To the right of the counter is a reset button. This needs to be clicked twice to reset the count. This is intentional to prevent accidental resets.

Please note, tools bar doesn’t save your row count for individual patterns. So if you are on pattern A for example and have a count of 34, and move to pattern B, the toolbar will show your count of 34 on pattern B also. If you decide to try another pattern, please make a note somewhere of your row count when switching patterns.

About the Row Highlight Bar
The Row Highlight Bar is a useful way to easily see the row you are working on when looking back and forth between your crochet project and your screen. It can be toggled on and off by clicking the Row Highlight button.

About the UK/US Crochet Term Conversion Feature
This feature will translate all pattern terms (except those that are in pictures/photos) from UK crochet terms to US crochet terms. This is a great way to view patterns in your preferred terminology.

  • This setting isn’t saved when you exit a pattern so double check it is set to your preference when coming back to a pattern.
  • If the term conversion drop-down isn’t visible on a pattern then the conversion isn’t available on that pattern currently.
  • The default setting is UK terms
